Lombok is also known for its best secret surf point, The Desert Point. Still very isolated but for most Australian surfers they named it as “Desert Point”, located in South West cost of Lombok. Desert Point also known as Bangko bangko beach.
A long walled and incredibly hollow left hander that on its day can break up to 300 meters, growing in size from takeoff to end.

Mundaka Dredging Surf

Friday, October 19th, 2012

Mundaka in Spain’s Basque Country seems to have added a bit of bite to it’s famous banks. This recent session sees surfers free-falling into dredging lefts. On the plus side if you do manage to sneak inside one of these Basque beauties then you would have had one of those barrels that would sear itself on to the back of your brain.

Connor Baxter Speaks Out Against Drugs at Orange County School

Saturday, October 6th, 2012

On Tuesday, paddleboarding’s youngest anointed superstar Connor Baxter and his friends Zane and Matty Shweitzer decided to pause in the middle of their competitive schedules, which involves surfing, racing the world’s oceans and snagging title after title, to speak to a bunch of Orange County middle-schoolers about staying away from drugs. Connor came to South Lake Middle School in Irvine to address something he has never done before – stand up before 600 middle-schoolers to talk about saying no to drugs and embracing a healthy lifestyle. It’s a lifestyle that began for Baxter when he set off his competitive career at 8.

Connor Baxter, 18, Molokai, Hawaii, talks with middle-schoolers at South Lake Middle School in Irvine to talk about saying no to drugs and embracing a healthy lifestyle as related to the upcoming Red Ribbon Week. “Just say no, ” said Baxter,” And don’t even attempt to do it once.”At 16, Baxter was the youngest to complete in and then break the world individual stand up paddleboard record in the Molokai-2-Oahu Paddleboard World Championships. He broke his own record again last year. Last weekend, he took third at the Battle of The Paddle in Dana Point – an event he won the year before.

Baxter’s speech was related to Red Ribbon Week, which is in two weeks.
“When a kid hears something from an adult – it goes in one ear and out the other,” said Baxter, 18. “But if you hear it from a kid closer to your age, you are more likely to listen.”

Baxter did get the kid’s attention. “Try to find something you’re passionate about and just pursue it. And don’t think about anything else,” he said, “There is no fun in drugs.”

Ian Quintos, 12, took Baxter’s words to heart: “I’m gonna follow his example. I like soccer, so I’m won’t stop trying.”
Maybe the kids will see Baxter again, next time maybe as one of the sports top representatives – should paddleboarding finally appear in the Olympics.
