Big Wave World Tour 2013 – Arnette Punta Galea Challenge Finals

Sunday, December 29th, 2013

results-big-wave-world-tour-puntagaleaThe finals at the big wave world tour event held at Punta Galea located 15 kilometres from Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain in a small city area called Getxo. This is the birthplace of some of the best European surfers such as Naxto Gonzalez (Last year’s Qualifying Event Champion), Indar Unanue, Jaime Fernández, Axier Munianin, Ibon Amatriain, David Bustamante, etc.

The right hand point break offers long carving walls and barrel sections.  The currents are some of the strongest in the world and when matched with 30ft+ surf, Punta Galea offers a challenging wave, even for the world’s best.

The wave breaks at the bottom of a 60-meter cliff, on the right-hand side of the Abra bay opposite Bilbao Commercial Harbor. Easily reached by boat, the spot is located less than three miles away from the Puerto Deportivo of Getxo (Getxo sports port).

Congrats to Twiggy!

Koa Rothman XXL Entry Teahupoo Tahiti

Sunday, December 29th, 2013

Koa Rothman seemed to have an XXL nomination under his belt before his boardshorts were dry. Koa Rothman for sure got the bomb of the day. But thank God there were no serious injuries. The channel was madness with boats running into each other, almost getting sucked over and people flying off boats scratching for their lives. Some very very close calls!”

Motivate – The Time is Now! Goal Setting For 2014

Friday, December 27th, 2013

A wonderful video about never giving up, about setting  your goals for 2014 and achieving them…Goal setting is critical to achieve your goals and if you don’t you only have yourself to blame.  Period.  Stop making excuses.  Stop fighting yourself.  If there is no enemy inside the enemy outside doesn’t stand a chance.

Albee Layer – Youthful Movement

Thursday, December 12th, 2013

Laird Hamilton considers himself lucky enough to be Albee Layer’s neighbor. While Laird was busy being the face of American Express (yawn), Albee was devoting his time to wooing the world with his mind blowing surfing. Albee might have electricity under his belt (again, yawn), but Albee has got the flair, an upside down backside rotation with an indy grab. With so much repetition of the standard frontside air reverse nowadays, Albee’s backhand progression is as crisp and refreshing as a nice wine spritzer. Wine spritzers are cool, right? Albee is also known to horseback ride off into sunsets and surf massive Jaws.

Retro – Andy Irons & Kelly Slater Billabong Pro Final at J-Bay 2005

Sunday, December 8th, 2013

Andy Irons & Kelly Slater had some amazing battles over the years, up towards the top was this final at the 2005 Billabong J-Bay event.

On the last wave of the heat Kelly stroked into a wave needing a 9.25 to win it… did he get it?.. the judges thought so giving him a 9.50 and the rest is history. The debate still goes on whether he got the score, what do you think? either way it’s what makes the sport so great.

Saturday, December 7th, 2013

From Redbull  It’s not a good year unless you win,” says Mick Fanning. Good ol’ MF is currently in the ratings lead on the ASP World Tour and, suffice to say, his year has been pretty good thus far. He’s now only one event away from his third world title. Unfortunately, a man named Kelly Slater stands in his way.
