Mexico Long Range fishing on the Red Rooster 3 – 1997

500 Yellowfin Tuna Day – On September 27, 1997 I went on my umpteenth trip on the legendary Red Rooster 3 out of San Diego with my then father in law, Gordon Lloyd-Jones. We ended up picking off a smattering of larger tuna up to 100lb’s and a bunch of wahoo, however the highlight of the trip was the non-stop night time yellowtail bite at the Rocks and a 500 fish yellowfin tuna day at the Ridge. Skipper Andy Cates was on one of his early Long Range trips and killed it. I’ll be posting some other videos I have of other parts of the trips I took. This was before 2 speeds, topshots, braid and custom reels where mainstream. All my rods were built and my gear was tuned by Ken Corwin who’s storefront Ken’s Custom Reels had only recently opened in the Oceanside harbor lighthouse at the time. Good times all around! Digitized from VHS hence the marginal video and audio quality, I overdubbed a Dream Theater song to make it bearable.
