2018 Slingshot Surf Foil

Monday, December 25th, 2017

The 2018 Slingshot Hover Glide SUP / Surf Foil is designed to deliver surfers an advanced wave riding experience. This is accomplished with an early takeoff and gliding speed designed to match the speed of (small-to-medium) waves. This design eliminates the need for excessive pumping, and will show in your smooth foiling style. Once you get the basics you will learn this wing can generate speed in the turns and you’ll be carving glassy faces like they are going out of style! The aluminum design is affordable but more importantly, it increases stability and eliminates the “twitchy” behavior that full-carbon foils typically exhibit. With the FSurf/SUP Foil, you can ride rolling swell on the outside, catch whitewater on the inside, or when you’re ready, paddle into breaking waves like you would with a regular surf or SUP board.

Slingshot Hydrofoil Wing Analysis and Quiz

Sunday, December 24th, 2017

H1 Hydrofoil Wing: 30% larger Hoverglide Wing…great slow speed kite foil, good larger wave surf foil or for lighter riders, great slow speed wake foil.

H2 Hydrofoil Wing: Flattened H1 foil with the most lift of any of the “H” series wings. Very stable and stock wing with FSurf and Fwind hydrofoil package.

H3 Hydrofoil Wing: Tow-in Wing for tow-in surf and speed nuts…emphasis on the “nuts”

H4 Hydrofoil Wing: “bat wing” Slow speed and very dynamic great surf foil for most conditions and a fun slow speed wing for behind the boat

H5 Hydrofoil Wing: This is the stock hoverglide wing for kite foiling, can be used for larger waves with high speed and the stock foil for the Wake Surfer.

Like Water: Why Lifeguards in Hawaii Shouldn’t Be Sued for Saving Your Life – The Inertia

Saturday, December 23rd, 2017

The Hawaiian lifeguards risk their lives every day to save ours. It’s about time we return the favor. Watch The Inertia’s new film made in partnership with OluKai, Like Water. Starring Mark Healey, Brian Keaulana, Mark Cunningham, Archie Kalepa, and Hawaii’s elite waterman, Like Water pays homage to the bravery of the Hawaiian lifeguards despite newfound legal risks that leave them personally liable for many ocean-related hazards.

“Everyone who walks on our beach, everyone who swims in our ocean becomes part of our family. We’re not divided by land. We’re connected by water.” – Brian Keaulana

New Jersey Nuking | Winter Storm Stella Produces the Best Surf NJ’s Seen in Years

Thursday, December 21st, 2017

March 14th — day of the year — as seen through the lens of Alex DePhillipo.

New Jersey surfers are already starting to call the back side of Winter Storm Stella the biggest thing they’ve seen since the Doomsday Swell of 2012. And after seeing this edit from Dark Fall Productions’ mastermind Alex DePhillipo, we might be inclined to agree. “People forget how cold and gnarly this shit is, especially paddling into waves with heavy winds,” says Alex. “And to think I almost didn’t even go because of the weather.” The day’s highlight? “Rob Kelly is my hero,” Alex affirms. “Hands down, the best wave I have ever seen/filmed on the East Coast.”

Rescue of Concussed Bodyboarder from Drowning

Wednesday, December 20th, 2017

In big and powerful surf a bodyboarder at a Cape Town beach break took a big and heavy wave on his head and suffered a concussion and whiplash and was struggling to stay afloat in the rip. Had Aden Kleve (trained lifeguard) and Wilder Schultz not reacted as quickly as they did, things could have gotten bad and in all likelihood the guy would have drowned. Respect to these guys!

Autumnal Reminiscence | Brett Barley 2017 Hurricane Season

Monday, December 18th, 2017

The 2017 Hurricane Season on the East Coast was Historical. It will be remember for both it’s destruction, with the millions of people lives who were turned upside down by those Hurricanes; and it’s glory, for the weeks on end of pumping surf it provided the coast. Every surfer I know would trade back every day of surf to take back those Hurricanes and the damage they did, but life unfortunately doesn’t work that way… So you might as well take the good with the bad.

Before I continue, let me leave a link below for anyone willing to donate to Waves for Water and their Caribbean Hurricane Relief Initiative.

So here we reminisce on the good of the 2017 Hurricane Season. The lighter side of storms Irma, Jose, Maria, and a low pressure in October. We had 6 weeks of non-stop surf, a week of downtime, another swell, 10 days downtime, then another firing swell that I ended up missing. It was ridiculous how many days of spitting barrels graced the shores of Cape Hatteras, NC from August through October.

Everyone on Hatteras Island was passing up surfing days of decent head high waves, because it had been firing the day before, and was going to fire again the next day. September was a marathon for surfing on the island, and the best run of swell I think I’ve ever seen at home. Shoot, I left out multiple days of footage from this movie, just because it had already been social media.

Anyway… I hope you enjoy this long play. This season was too special to not dedicate a lengthy video to. From Hurricane Irma lighting up a mysto Left Point in Buxton, that has since washed away, to Hurricane Jose providing days on days of perfect surf, to Hurricane Maria providing some of the most perfect Lighthouse below sea level waves I’ve surfed in a while, with just the boys out due to an evacuation order.

My gosh… What a season.

This Harvard-Educated Philosophy Professor Believes Getting Barreled Is Important – The Inertia

Tuesday, December 12th, 2017

Professor Aaron James has built a life for himself that by all accounts is worthy of envy. The Harvard-educated philosophy professor has essentially navigated two parallel, seemingly disparate paths in life, pursuing both with an unquestionable and unabashed devotion.

The first, a dedication to philosophy – more specifically, ethics and political philosophy, mostly. James is a prolific writer whose academic papers have been published in numerous journals and law reviews.

The second, and more relatable given this is a website that covers surf, is a relentless search for perfect waves.
