Winter Storm Skylar | Cape Hatteras Pumped!

Friday, March 23rd, 2018

–EPISODE 5–
Winter Storm Skylar absolutely pumped here on Hatteras Island! The current was a beast during this one, making finding good waves very challenging, but I managed one of my thicker barrels here in quite a while!

Looking like a few down days here for some much needed rest after I strained some muscles in my left leg. I’ll see y’all next week, and go a little more in depth on what surfing those big swells is like here, and the challenges vs. rewards of pushing myself as hard as I do on those days.

Thanks for watching!

Winter Storm Riley Pt. 2 | When Wind Forecasts Flop

Sunday, March 18th, 2018

After leaving New Jersey, getting back onto Hatteras Island for the back end of the Winter Storm Riley swell proved to be an issue. With the highway washed out from the maxed out ocean, and the road closed, we reverted to desperate measures to make sure we didn’t miss what was possibly going to be a day as good as it gets on the Outer Banks.

We made it back thanks to a good friend and his boat, but what happened on the following 2 days was quite unexpected….

Winter Storm Grayson | Brett Barley GoPro

Sunday, March 18th, 2018

This was Day 2 of the Winter Storm Grayson swell. The water was in the mid 40s, but the wind chill in the air was 5 degrees! I’ve never seen Ice formed on the jetty like that, while there was surf, nor have I had ice form on my hood.

The waves were gorgeous this day, and although I had my EV compensation a little too low on my GoPro, I felt it was time for another GoPro edit since it’d been a while.

Enjoy!

Shot with GoPro Hero5 Black & MyGo Mouth Mount.

Kai VLOG 7: Another day on MAUI

Sunday, March 18th, 2018

Made the most of my short time home to continue my physical training both in the gym and in the water before I headed to Tahiti. the funniest moment came when my friend Kody Kerbox and I attempted a downwinder on foils, thing was there was no wind. a mile out at sea is a long way to swim in if we fall.

Amp Sessions: Surfing Winter Storm Riley

Saturday, March 10th, 2018

The writing was on the wall days before the swell even arrived, Winter storm Riley was going to deliver the goods to New Jersey. What people didn’t expect was just how long the wind and swell would stay in good graces. “It’s firing again” became an Instagram Stories mantra as locals dealt with leg burning long lefts for multiple days. As word got out, it became a rush of planes trains, and automobiles, as homebodies left their beloved zones, some heading south from New England which failed to fire (until today or the time of this post) and Outer Banks had Brett barley and others driving north with a visitor pass. The following edit above is filmed and edited (just-off-the-jet) by ace cinematographer Blake Michel with some of the local East Coast talent including Rob Kelly, Duran Barr, Brett Barley, Simon Hetrick, Stevie Pittman, Brad Flora, Michael Ciaramella, Sam Hammer, Schuyler Allen, Gilly, Shane Borland, Jude Clark, and Seth Conboy .

John John Florence from FiNS

Saturday, March 3rd, 2018

The sport of surfing has more than its fair share of talented young wave riders, but very few prodigies. John John Florence, then 13, has been on the surf world’s radar for more than half a decade, and during that time he’s proven that nothing is impossible. Florence, who grew up on the North Shore of Hawaii is a permanent fixture at Pipeline, the sport’s most treacherous destination. Riding with death-defying aplomb, he continues to do things on a wave that were previously thought impossible for someone of his age. John John is definitely having fun today as he clinches back-to-back World Champion Titles.

Pam Burridge Interview | Career Reflection & What Drives Her Now

Saturday, March 3rd, 2018

Pam picked up her first surfboard in 1975 at the age of 10 and was entering her first competitions like the Move It On Pro at Nth Steyne and entering male dominated board riders club comps just as the sport of professional surfing was being born.

When Pam started surfing at Nth Steyne, women were not part of the then ASP world tour and contests for girls were extremely limited.

None of that halted Burridge.

Hollow Trees Resort Mentawai

Saturday, March 3rd, 2018

HT’s, short for “Hollow Trees” and also known as “Lances Right”, was discovered in the early 70’s and named by surfers due to the huge hollow tree standing tall on the reef. In 1999 a huge swell tore the tree down, leaving only the legendary name. The resort’s property stretches over 150 meters of absolute beachfront land with the world-class HT’s surf break directly in front of the resort. All four villas are positioned directly on the beach 20 meters from the waters edge. Complete with AC, TV’s, hot showers, mini-bar fridge and in-room safes.
