Chatting with a Transgender Woman

“Transgender people are those who have a gender identity or gender expression that differs from their assigned sex. Transgender people are sometimes called transsexual if they desire medical assistance to transition from one sex to another. Transgender is also an umbrella term: in addition to including people whose gender identity is the opposite of their assigned sex (trans men and trans women), it may include people who are not exclusively masculine or feminine (people who are genderqueer or non-binary, including bigender, pangender, genderfluid, or agender). Other definitions of transgender also include people who belong to a third gender, or else conceptualize transgender people as a third gender. Infrequently, the term transgender is defined very broadly to include cross-dressers, regardless of their gender identity.” – wikipedia

OCEAN GRAVITY – Guillaume Néry / Julie Gautier

Monday, August 27th, 2018

Ocean Gravity is a short film that rewrite the rules of the underwater world and takes us this time into the world of the weightlessness.

Just like in the space, there isn’t anymore a top or a bottom. There isn’t anymore upside down and wrong side out. The ocean becomes cosmos, the man a satellite, and the bottom of the sea an unknown planet. Welcome in the fascinating universe of Ocean Gravity.

Guillaume: «since ever, my diving propels my imagination in the fantasy of the conquest of space. To touch the sea floor or to set foot on an unexplored planet, here are 2 fascinating adventures which feed my thirst of unknown. The discovery of this quite unique place (Tiputa – Rangiroa – French Polynesia), allowed us to put in image the visual closeness of 2 universes water and air, ocean and space.»

Rob Machado, Evan Geiselman, and Mikala Jones Strike Remote Indo | Rob’s Corner (full length)

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

In Reef’s new short, “Rob’s Corner,” Rob Machado, Evan Geiselman and Mikala Jones find everything you’d hope for on a remote Indonesian boat trip–drained-out tubes and rippable waves.

Along with the tube packing, the trio experiences their fair share of unexpected adventure as well, like a dinghy mishap that resulted in a lot of expensive gear going overboard.

Whether he’s stuffing tubes or keeping his cool during misadventures, Rob Machado just might be the ultimate boat companion. Between smoothly carving apart waves on his wide-nosed boards, he chills like a house cat on the port side of the stern–the drifter himself, strumming acoustic tunes and providing all-around good vibes on the trip. Enjoy “Rob’s Corner” above.

Downwind Foiling tips in 360

Saturday, August 11th, 2018

Downwind SUP foiling is fun and very challenging, this is what I learned from my attempts at learning this amazing sport. After training for the M2M and M2O races on an unlimited board for the last few months, I’m getting back into foiling more and did a downwind run from Portlock to Diamond Head in good conditions. When everything works, foiling in the bumps is a dream come true, racing and connecting on fast and long bumps that would be impossible to ride at those speeds on any other craft. It is more challenging than it looks though, these are my takeaways. I hope my tips and instructions will help others to find their way in this amazing new sport.
This video was shot with a Garmin Virb360. For some reason the 360 feature is not working on YouTube, to watch the video in 360 where you can direct the view with your mouse, watch it on Facebook here:

Occ-Cast Episode 33 featuring Gerry Lopez | Billabong

Wednesday, August 8th, 2018

“No one’s going to do that. That’s absurd.” – Gerry Lopez when first confronted with the idea that people might pay anyone to go surfing.

Mr. Pipeline, Mr. Style, actor, shaper, surfer & snowboarder. Gerry Lopez has lived one of the fullest lives of anyone on the planet, and has stood calm in the eye of the Banzai storm like no-one before or since.

Occy caught up with Gerry at the Billabong house at Pipeline to chat about pioneering the shortboard revolution, surfing G-Land for the first time, and the worst wipeout he ever had at Pipe – literally tearing himself a new one and puncturing his colon.

This interview will have you wishing for the old days, excited for the future and wanting to pack more into your everyday existence.

Enjoy Occ-Cast episode 33 featuring Gerry Lopez.

Earlier this week, Ross Clarke Jones, Zac Haynes, Ryan Hipwood, Jake Osman and Bradley Norris chased another swell out to The Right. By now, you’ve heard about Bradley Norris’ three-wave hold-down, which is going to be well documented in a podcast/short edit we’re working on with The Grin Reapers that we’ll release here in the coming week. So for now, enjoy this Amp Sessions edit as the boys wrangled monster slabs at this Western Australia slab last week.

Big Swell At Impossibles – 19 July 2018

Sunday, August 5th, 2018

It wasn’t as huge as Uluwatu was on this day (see the previous video). But there was still plenty of juice hitting this stretch of reef and it was a bit cleaner than Ulu’s. As per usual at this place there were lines stacked to the horizon, just on a much bigger scale.
