Rob Machado, Evan Geiselman, and Mikala Jones Strike Remote Indo | Rob’s Corner (full length)

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

In Reef’s new short, “Rob’s Corner,” Rob Machado, Evan Geiselman and Mikala Jones find everything you’d hope for on a remote Indonesian boat trip–drained-out tubes and rippable waves.

Along with the tube packing, the trio experiences their fair share of unexpected adventure as well, like a dinghy mishap that resulted in a lot of expensive gear going overboard.

Whether he’s stuffing tubes or keeping his cool during misadventures, Rob Machado just might be the ultimate boat companion. Between smoothly carving apart waves on his wide-nosed boards, he chills like a house cat on the port side of the stern–the drifter himself, strumming acoustic tunes and providing all-around good vibes on the trip. Enjoy “Rob’s Corner” above.

Occ-Cast Episode 33 featuring Gerry Lopez | Billabong

Wednesday, August 8th, 2018

“No one’s going to do that. That’s absurd.” – Gerry Lopez when first confronted with the idea that people might pay anyone to go surfing.

Mr. Pipeline, Mr. Style, actor, shaper, surfer & snowboarder. Gerry Lopez has lived one of the fullest lives of anyone on the planet, and has stood calm in the eye of the Banzai storm like no-one before or since.

Occy caught up with Gerry at the Billabong house at Pipeline to chat about pioneering the shortboard revolution, surfing G-Land for the first time, and the worst wipeout he ever had at Pipe – literally tearing himself a new one and puncturing his colon.

This interview will have you wishing for the old days, excited for the future and wanting to pack more into your everyday existence.

Enjoy Occ-Cast episode 33 featuring Gerry Lopez.

Tuesday, August 7th, 2018

Earlier this week, Ross Clarke Jones, Zac Haynes, Ryan Hipwood, Jake Osman and Bradley Norris chased another swell out to The Right. By now, you’ve heard about Bradley Norris’ three-wave hold-down, which is going to be well documented in a podcast/short edit we’re working on with The Grin Reapers that we’ll release here in the coming week. So for now, enjoy this Amp Sessions edit as the boys wrangled monster slabs at this Western Australia slab last week.

Big Swell At Impossibles – 19 July 2018

Sunday, August 5th, 2018

It wasn’t as huge as Uluwatu was on this day (see the previous video). But there was still plenty of juice hitting this stretch of reef and it was a bit cleaner than Ulu’s. As per usual at this place there were lines stacked to the horizon, just on a much bigger scale.

No Contest goes off as the world’s best surfers tackle the world’s best pointbreak. Come backstage to dance with the Devil Wind and get up close and personal with the ocean’s heaviest locals.
Every year the world tour rolls into South Africa, and every year something happens that stops surfing’s world. In 2017 we gasped as Filipe Toledo put on a seminal performance, alongside a perfect 20 from Jordy Smith. The year before we gasped at Mick Fanning’s epic comeback victory, 12 months on from his infamous run-in with the most dangerous local of them all. And this time around it was the addition of the women’s field to the draw, as well as another incendiary effort from Toledo, that will keep the chatter alive long into the future.

XSWIM for Surfers Training Program

Thursday, August 2nd, 2018

XSWIM for Surfers Training Program

If we spend 100% of our time in the water, and 85% of the active time is paddling, where we are physically using the water to move around, then why do we have surfing fitness programs only on land?

XSWIM is a pool based, high intensity surfing training program designed to help you increase strength, endurance, agility, balance, and flexibility.

XSWIM achieves this through surfing specific swim sets and water drills created to keep you connected to the water combined with dryland surf specific, transitional movement exercises. Transitional movement is moving from one body positioning to another in quick succession, much like the natural surfing experience – moving from prone to popping up, bottom turn to top turn combo and into the barrel.

The entire program is designed to help you get the most out of each surf session.

The XSWIM for Surfers 30 day Surfing and Paddling Fitness Program Level 1, starts you out building a baseline fitness level and takes you through becoming stronger and more confident in water, so that you can be ready for whatever the ocean throws at you.

You can watch the overview videos to get an idea of what the workout for that particular day is going to look like, and then either use the videos at the pool or print out the pdf workout pool cards to use as a guide when performing the workout that day.
The workout pool cards guide you through each workout using easy descriptions and clear and concise pictures, and if you still need some assistance, reference the Exercise Instructional Manual which describes exactly how to do each exercise.

Keep track of your progress using the XSWIM Program Guide, marking off the workouts you’ve completed and looking forward to the upcoming challenge days.

Once you’ve successfully conquered level 1, go beyond 30 days and try Levels 2 and 3. With new swim exercises that challenge your lungs, muscles, and mind, you’ll come out of finishing levels 2 and 3 with extreme confidence in the water.

More waves, more fun, more fit.

Try XSWIM for Surfers 30-Day Surfing and Paddling Fitness Program Today!
I’ll see you in the water.

Mega Swell – Uluwatu, 25th July 2018

Thursday, July 26th, 2018

This was the second huge swell in the space of a week to hit Bali, and it was even bigger than the first. Probably the biggest waves seen at Uluwatu in recent years and definitely the biggest I’ve ever witnessed firsthand …anywhere.

The guy towing caught some incredibly long rides covering almost the entire length of the reef, and there were a few hardy paddle guys giving it a go, dodging the massive, shifty clean up sets and the river like sweep.

Huge Waves At Uluwatu – 19th July 2018

Monday, July 23rd, 2018

Some seriously heavy water was rolling through Uluwatu yesterday. There were about a dozen guys sitting on Outside Corner and less than half of that on the Bombie. Amazing rides, wide sets and heavy wipe-outs aplenty.

Skeleton Bay’s Best Month Ever? | SURFER Magazine’s Clips of the Month: June 2018

Friday, July 20th, 2018

Never has surfing been documented at such a quick rate than it is right now. High-quality clips, edits, shorts and full-lengths come and go so fast that they’re often forgotten by the next day, ancient by the following week. “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around every once in awhile, you could miss it.” Ferris Bueller’s proverb is just as applicable to surfing as those looking to justify a day off. Speaking of days off, you won’t have to take one in order to sift through all the mind-blowing waves ridden within the last 30 days in order to get pumped for a surf. With our new episodic “Clips of the Month,” the top ten waves ridden will be condensed into a highlight reel right here.

Arguably, the best wave ever surfed in the history of riding waves occured last month. That’s right, Koa Smith’s mind boggling mile-long Namibian drainer takes the cake for June. Although Skeleton Bay stole the show, there were plenty of other high-caliber highlights that made the cut too, relive above.

The Best of Jeffrey’s Bay and Cape St Francis 1975

SCORING Skeleton Bay | $3,000 TICKET for a 20sec BARREL?!

Saturday, June 23rd, 2018

After booking tickets for another Trip of a Lifetime with my good friend Oliver Kurtz, excitement levels were high! Nervous the swell wouldn’t be big enough, we really were gambling with our tickets, but felt good about going.

Then upon arrival at the airport, I was denied check-in at the counter, and my dreams were being shattered… Would it be worth rolling the dice and buying a very expensive replacement ticket, to only get there the afternoon the swell started arriving?? Should I stay home? Would I make it in time? What if my boards didn’t make it?

With Oliver already in the air… I rolled the dice, cause I couldn’t bail on him!
Enjoy the journey on a trip with the most expensive plane ticket of my life, but that which provided the longest barrel of my life!

Firing Uluwatu – 9/5/18

Friday, June 22nd, 2018

Perfect offshore winds, mid tide and a new swell today at Ulu’s this morning. There was a dense pack on the main peak, and that zone had the best consistency and quality by far. But there was a lot of space either side if you were patient enough.
