Friday, August 18th, 2017Maui Maliko Run Summer Downwind Fun
Monday, August 7th, 2017The summer trades on Maui have been epic and we’ve had some unusual ground swell, making for super fun Maliko Runs. This was shot yesterday August 5th, 2017 and if you like BIG glides and BIG music and a splash of humor, you’ll love my video.
My long time good friend, Bill Hofmann and I have seen it all together and have paddled winter mountains of water on Maliko. It’s no joke out there and of course the camera ( special top secret GoPro mount ), never really shows the trued size of the swells, but it’s still cool.
This day the swells were topping out in the 6-7ft range but the extremely high tide with the full moon, made for silky smooth glides that connected forever. The wind was gusting up to 35mph, and a steady 25-30mph.
I hope you’ll comment and share the stoke. Be safe out there and where your leash, bring hydration and phone and/or personal beacon.

How to surf small waves downwind like a boss without paddling
Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016Surfing downwind is a combination of skills, knowledge and perfect conditions.
Catching waves without making any strokes for over a minute at a time is taking those skills to a little higher level…ah, and one more thing 🙂 These conditions are pretty usual for our Surfski Center in Tarifa.
If this is something you would be interested to learn, give us a shout at surfskicenter.com
Enjoy the video…don’t worry if you end up watching it more than 20-30 times…we all did! 😉

[SURFSKI] Maraamu Surfski Downwinder 2013
Wednesday, May 21st, 2014Maraamu surfski 2013 is a downwind race between the island of Tahaa and Bora Bora. Surf, surf and more surf. Mara’amu, the prevailing wind from July to October, can blow between 25-35kts from the southeast. It will generate a windswell that one can surf from Tahaa to Bora Bora. The Mara’amu Surfski Race is more than a race. It’s the gathering of all the polynesian surfski paddlers. A channel crossing, a challenge that is the climax of the paddling surfski season. For a competitive paddler, it’s a great achievement to write his name to the Maraamu Hall of Fame. From all over the world, you will come to compete with us

Surfski Downwind Basics
Saturday, January 5th, 2013This is a short video which we took at Tarifa few days ago. At Tarifa Surfski Center we have adopted the philosophy to separate downwind sessions from fitness so we could focus entirely on improving specific surfing skills. For that we most often use V8 surfski which is very stable and eliminates 100% any worry about stability. That allows us to achieve very quick improvement in a short period of time. The video contains few useful tips that will help you improve. We use the same standards during our surfski courses although we get into a lot more detail. Enjoy!
