Jordy Smith in Mozambique and Durban

Monday, March 21st, 2016

During my off season I snuck home and then up to Mozambique. The waves were fun but when I got back to Durban I had some really good waves at my local.

Thanks to Dane Staples for the film/edit.

Summary of the 2014 Duzi Canoe Marathon

Friday, April 11th, 2014

Incredible summary of the 2014 Dusi Canoe Marathon that finished amidst a frenzy of celebrations when Andy Birkett and Sbonelo Zondi crossed the finish line at Blue Lagoon in Durban. In front of thousands of supporters they ended a perfect performance over the three exhausting days of racing in the Msundusi and Mngeni River valleys in South Africa.

Gaining nine minutes overnight the leaders looked to back off slightly on the third and final stage however the impressive pair instead hammered the final nail into the coffin early in the day and then pushed themselves to a personal record time over the treacherous Burma Road portage before experiencing the thrill of crossing the finish line in front of Blue Lagoon’s lined banks.

Kiting – Red Bull King of the Air 2014

Sunday, February 16th, 2014

World’s kiteboarding elite and spectators alike gathered at Cape Town’s Big Bay where Naish’s Kevin Langeree kited his heart out to take the title of 2014 Red Bull King of the Air. For the second year in a row, Cape Town’s Big Bay played host to 24 of the world’s best kiteboarders as they went head-to-head in a unique ‘flag out’ competition format in front of a crowd reaching well over 12,000 heads. Judged on height, creativity and style, the final was set with three Dutchmen and a South African. From the start, Kevin and his Naish Torch were in a class of their own with jumps consistently over double-kite high all while busting out board offs and plenty of spins mid-air. On some airs he was travelling 200m down the beach and seemed to hang in the air forever! In the end, the judges went with Kevin’s immense jumps and massive hang time, which he backed up with a couple of powerful, jaw dropping mega loops.

The Fenn Cape Point Challenge

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

The penultimate race in the Vodacom Cape Town Surfski Festival – the gruelling 50km Fenn Cape Point Challenge! A strong South East wind and raging 3m swell forced race organisers to move the course from the traditional Scarborough-Fish Hoek course to a start in Long Beach, Simonstown, and ending in Fish Hoek.

Those who took on this monumental challenge were faced with an intense 25km slog into the wind, via Buffelsbaai, to the legendary Cape Point. From there it was an almost 180º turn into 25km of pumping downwind all the way to the finish at Fish Hoek. Well done to all who competed!
