The Road to Salvation: Chapter Two (The Salvation)

Thursday, November 2nd, 2017

The great California road trip continues, from San Diego to San Francisco

What are the ingredients to a successful California road trip? More than three dudes, and an RV’s the way to go A music festival – say, like CRSSD in San Diego — is a good start. Keeps everyone loose and balanced. Strolling the pier at Malibu? Check. Running lefts at Zuma? Yes, please. Chilly Ocean Beach peaks? Sure. And the salvation part? After a couple weeks on the road, this salty crew, consisting of Noah Wegrich, Curren Caples, Andrew Jacobson, Jake Anderson, Jake Kelley, Cam Richards, and Parker Coffin, finally luck into perfect combo swell and howling offshores somewhere south of Santa Barbara. Shack City. Redemption. Salvation.

After the dust settled from The Salt Circus event, Tyler had a few days spare to travel somewhere new before flying home. This was his fifth visit to New Zealand over the years and, would you believe, Raglan was a destination he still hadn’t ticked off his list!
Sure, this ain’t all time Raglan but jeez it makes us want to surf!!

Check the photos from the trip in the Corona Journey here:

2016 Autumn Anticipation

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016

Winter is again on its way. The first few ground swells of the year have made their way up the coast lighting up the sleepy Summer surf spots as they did.

Beyrick Devries, Davey Van Zyl, Dylan Stone, Dale Staples and Dylan Lightfoot were all out to take advantage of the fun conditions Supertubes had to offer.

Supertrial’s and the JBay Winter Fest are coming chaps… I’m frothing out!!!

2016 Supertubes & The Surfing Foundation

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016

Over 15 years ago, the JBU Surf Club invited other local surf clubs to form the Supertubes Surfing Foundation, in order to maintain the beaches and protect the last remaining sand dunes along the Supertubes stretch of coastline.

Here’s to that incredible initiative, and to another 15 years!

Some Pure West Swell Juice…

Waimea Bay Surfing Drone Video.

Monday, February 29th, 2016

The most famous surf contest in memory of Eddie Aikau almost happened today, but the ocean had different plans. The swell filled in during the afternoon and there were a lot of big waves being ridden. These are some of the gnarliest drone shots I have gotten of surfing. Many near crashes with waves and definitely lots of spray on the drone after every flight. Well worth it.

***Added because so many people have been asking what drone this is. This is my disclaimer: Do not use DJI products. Their drones are extremely faulty, cheaply made, and DJI has the worse customer service when their products fail. I have personally experienced and I have seen many drones malfunction, crash or fall out of the sky as a result of drone/battery malfunction. I have been using DJI drones for a couple of years and I was hoping they would get more reliable with their product and services and I am still hoping.

Clay Marzo In West Oz Perfection

Wednesday, February 10th, 2016

Riding his signature pro model—the SUPERbrand ‘Mad Cat’—Clay Marzo reminds us why he disappears into the outer reaches of Western Australia for weeks on end.

With extra width in the nose for paddling power and nose pick recoveries, full, boxy rails to match his power, and a pulled in, rounded square tail to keep things quick and tight, the Mad Cat is Clay’s ideal surfboard for decent-to-good waves. All the features that make this board perfect for Clay’s raw style also make it forgiving, easy to paddle, and ultra smooth in rail-to-rail transitions.

• Wider forward outline, pulled in via hip in the tail
• High performance, medium rocker
• Single to pronounced double concave
• Tri Fin | Rounded Square Tail
• Ride in your favorite shortboard dims or as a step-up
• Available in custom dimensions/specs

Shane Herring Inspires Kelly Slater’s New Surfboard The Banana

Friday, January 15th, 2016

Shane Herring took “3 Years to get to the top and 3 years to get to the bottom”

In 1992 Shane Herring won the Coke Classic against Kelly Slater and was heralded as Australia’s answer to the Slater juggernaut. However, Shane Herring’s career went horribly off the rails due to his partying habits and he went from likely the ‘Best Surfer in the World’ status on the most advanced equipment to nowhere in a blink of an eye. In this candid and confronting documentary Shane Herring and his closest associates reflect on his time in the spotlight.

Note: The archival footage of Shane’s surfing is guaranteed to blow your mind.

Interviews with Shane and his shaper at the time Greg Webber. Greg’s design for Shane called “The Banana” is the inspiring for Kelly Slater’s new board #3 in the Surfing Magazine’s article called So You Want to Buy a Kelly Slater Surfboard?

Hawaii, Du Ciel: Episode 2

Friday, January 15th, 2016

You wouldn’t ever call a full grown grizzly bear friendly, no matter how nice it may appear, just like how you wouldn’t call Pipeline inviting. But if you ever were to, it would probably look like this:

For the past few days, the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout has been basking in some of the most pristine North Shore conditions one could ever ask for. Glassy, light winds, big ‘ol teepees, and all-around clean as a whistle. So to give you an even more enjoyable perspective of this divine forty eight hours, we present to you the second installment of Hawaii Du Ciel. A bird’s eye view of one of the most beautifully intimidating places on earth. Enjoy the above two minutes – and keep telling yourself she’s friendly.
