Epic V8 Pro

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016

The New V8 Pro is Epic’s brand new surfski design. It is the perfect surfski for paddlers seeking a significant performance upgrade from the popular Epic V8. Compared to the V8, the V8 Pro adds 12″ of length (30 cm) and cuts nearly 1.5 inches (4 cm) off the width, creating a surfski design with paddling dynamics that are both livelier and faster than the V8.

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

Maraamu surfski 2013 is a downwind race between the island of Tahaa and Bora Bora. Surf, surf and more surf. Mara’amu, the prevailing wind from July to October, can blow between 25-35kts from the southeast. It will generate a windswell that one can surf from Tahaa to Bora Bora. The Mara’amu Surfski Race is more than a race. It’s the gathering of all the polynesian surfski paddlers. A channel crossing, a challenge that is the climax of the paddling surfski season. The Fenn Cape Point Challenge

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

The penultimate race in the Vodacom Cape Town Surfski Festival – the gruelling 50km Fenn Cape Point Challenge! A strong South East wind and raging 3m swell forced race organisers to move the course from the traditional Scarborough-Fish Hoek course to a start in Long Beach, Simonstown, and ending in Fish Hoek.

Those who took on this monumental challenge were faced with an intense 25km slog into the wind, via Buffelsbaai, to the legendary Cape Point. From there it was an almost 180º turn into 25km of pumping downwind all the way to the finish at Fish Hoek. Well done to all who competed!

Grant Corgan and Dylan Thomas Surfski Molokai 2012.

Sunday, March 17th, 2013

Grant Corgan and Dylan Thomas of Surf Ski Kauai on their Molokai Crossing in 2012.

“A little over a year ago we were given an amazing gift…the gift of getting to celebrate our love.  Jim and Caroline sent us on our honeymoon to the beautiful and magical island of Kauai.  During that time we had extraordinary healing, healing of living in the moment, and seeing the beauty.  One of the magical connections that Jim made was with us and Dylan Thomas of Surf Ski Kauai.   Dylan is a waterman extraordinaire, Surf Ski paddler and an all around phenomenal human being.  Jim had set it up with Dylan to take Grant out paddling in the Surf Ski, knowing the two would hit it off.  The tandem Surf Ski is a 28 foot long / 18 inch wide kayak of sorts, designed for open water/off-shore racing and riding waves”

[Recap]The Doctor Race 2012 Ocean Paddlers World Series

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

Fantastic footage and one of the best edits of any paddle race I’ve see. A great retrospective of The Doctor race from 2012. Some great race strategy from Clint Robinson, displays a true passion for the sport of SurfSki paddling – great SUP footage as well..A Must watch IMO.

OceanPaddler World Series & Ocean Sports Media production of the 2012 Doctor Ocean Race. Widely considered as a mini Molokai, the race from Rottnest Island to Sorrento mainland is named after the Fremantle Doctor, a wind the blows most afternoons predominantly S-SW at 20kts plus. This year the world best paddlers are battling for not only a win, but Series Points for the OceanPaddler World Series. Clint Robinson is back for for another crack after dominating in 2009, in his way however is defending champ Tim Jacobs and an ocean of elite paddlers all wanting to pull on the white Doctor gown.
Must read Joe Glickman article on the race

Classic Downwinder at The Doctor 2013

Sunday, February 3rd, 2013

fter no training and a big spell off the water, forecast conditions for this years “The Doctor” surf ski race (Rottnest Island to Sorrento Beach West Aus) were way to inviting for me not to paddle!! Its been 5 years since we had proper downwind conditions & I wasn’t going to wait another 5!!

Thanks to a very generous mate & Think Kayak customer I was given the pleasure of paddling a Think UNO max Ultimate for the 1st time…… is an AMAZING ski to paddle!

This is the race start – unfortunately for me I had rudder issues because of user error!! After about 8km my rudder failed & I spent the next 20km fighting a broaching OC6!! & after 1 swim at the initial failing the camera mount pushed forward leaving the solid DW conditions unfilled 🙁

Surfski Downwind Basics

Saturday, January 5th, 2013

This is a short video which we took at Tarifa few days ago. At Tarifa Surfski Center we have adopted the philosophy to separate downwind sessions from fitness so we could focus entirely on improving specific surfing skills. For that we most often use V8 surfski which is very stable and eliminates 100% any worry about stability. That allows us to achieve very quick improvement in a short period of time. The video contains few useful tips that will help you improve. We use the same standards during our surfski courses although we get into a lot more detail. Enjoy!
